Guidance to assist the collation and assurance of information required for the golden thread and the safety case

The Building Safety Alliance has worked with many experts and stakeholders to develop practical and proportionate methods to collate and assure the validity of golden thread and safety case information.
Before writing a safety case report and undertaking a Building Risk Assessment (as required by the Building Safety Act 2022), (principal) accountable persons (P)APs and those that support them will need to assure themselves that they have all of the appropriate and validated information necessary.
The Building Safety Alliance guidance has been published in three parts:
- Information management & the golden thread – The BSA Prescribed information and documents table (Excel Spreadsheet, including The List)
- Information management & the golden thread – How to use the ‘Prescribed information and documents table’. Practical guidance on collating, keeping and assuring golden thread information
- Information management & the golden thread – Supporting Information to assist in the use of the ‘Prescribed information and documents table’ – A Selection of key regulatory information requirements.
The ‘How to use the ‘Prescribed information and documents table’ includes guidance for the collation of assured information during the design and construction phase, (of use to Client, PD and PC dutyholders); as well as guidance for those who are collating information on existing buildings. The Building Safety Alliance has curated a list of all the information and documents that will help towards compliance with the requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022 obligations (related to Golden Thread/Safety Cases). The list provided will need to be contextualised to the building, as not all information may be needed for every building. In addition, this list, and its application will continue to evolve. This publication is therefore a soft launch, engaging more technical audiences. Stakeholders are invited to join the collaboration to adapt this standardised approach and its guidance to the wider range of personas in the built environment that have golden thread duties.
Please complete the application form on this page to receive the list and to participate in forthcoming consultations and workshops. While the list is freely available, at this point we are looking for collaborators to further optimise the list and its applications across the built environment.
- We will review the application and revert to the applicant as quickly as we can.
- The golden thread guidance set will be subject to updates/developments. If you wish to subscribe to receive notice of updates please tick the subscription box. The initial download will be free of charge.
- The BSA Charity is reviewing options to ensure that the ongoing development and future updates will maintain access to the list and its guidance, for the benefit of society and therefore free of charge.
